Base Invasions
I'd implement this where either randomly or semi randomly have mobs come and harass your base or try to invade it.
The developers can decide the severity of the invasions based off their vision of the game.
For example, if the severity would ramp up in later days, then players would be encouraged to build more defensive structures. On the other hand, having lighter invasion or the ability to toggle the feature off would encourage more luxurious structural builds.

Would be nice to see random events such as Lost or Soldiers of some sort as a toggle-able ruleset that allows in-game events / random raids against you similar to Valheim with random NPCs attacking your settlements. Would love to see something similar to where we can toggle this in a ruleset and have it reward some materials (worthwhile of course) for completion / defeating all the NPCs. Not sure if I'd like to see just a random number spawn and attack, or have a few small waves. Suggestions would be nice on that, but for now I'll just say I leave this at the discretion of others' opinions and the devs. -

KillaZilla MergedIf my other suggestion of Base invasions is liked by the community (the one about having mobs attack your base periodically depending on developer preference), I'd recommend adding this as a buildable structure that would be added to your base.
I'd also consider implementing a flaming ballista bolt option in addition to the normal default bolts.
Also, this might be a duplicate post if this falls under the "Building options + suggestions) post. Feel free to combine this post onto that one if it is. -

jadedI think this is a horrible idea. This isn’t a base defense game. Imagine trying to do all of your quests and being on the other side of the map and your base gets attacked. Plus, all of the dev time to make all of the defense items for the game that takes away from core game dev time. Not a fan. If you want mobs to come around then let them come gather around your base and wait for you to come back. Then they attack you as you walk up, not the base. This would be turned from survival game to base defense as a core mechanic. It gets confusing to a degree as a brand image.

KillaZilla MergedThis is related to the base invasions suggestion.
Just adds a bit more depth to bases and a reason to return.
It also makes it so that if somebody builds something random and they don't maintain it it'll just fall into disrepair -

KillaZilla☝️ This is my response to the above comment:
Just to do what Valheim did lol. It's not game breaking
Here's a quote of how their system worked:
"A wave of enemies spawn and attempt to kill you and destroy your base for around 2-3 minutes. You can fend the raid off by killing all of the enemies or by waiting the raid out, as once the raid timer ends, enemies run away and despawn.
It's important to note that raids will only occur in a location when you're in close proximity to a base (an area with a bed, campfire, and workbench qualifies as a base). This means that you don't have to worry about any of your bases being attacked while you're away from them, although it does mean that shelters you create while exploring a new biome can be raided."
Also it's not just Valheim that has this, here are a few other games:
The Forest
7 days to die
Minecraft (not full raiding tho, just wandering mobs)
Terraria (not 3D game)
I'm sure there are others but meh, u guys can look it up. -

ArohnI agree with Jaded comment. Maybe adding a buildable item to start the raid ? In this case when we're far away nothing can happen and when we're ready we can start a raid ? It gives the player a choice.

Survival TimOh gosh, please add this as a world option you can turn OFF - I hate base invasions. I want a peaceful life, especially with my 50+ hour base designs.

FiaSince we are defiling the shrines, there could be a 'purge meter' if you will- and call it something like wrath of the gods? I like the idea, but I can understand some reservations from other players, I think if it were an option to toggle off and on it could be really fun.

Dragon MergedIt would be great if enemies like the Lost attacked while in camp. After all, we are defiling the Temples, so, it would not hurt to give the Gods a little bit of chance for payback. It would make the game more fun too.

gruevyBase invasion is always half-baked and ultimately just an annoyance. Either it's massive threat that is potentially devastating for the base you've spent forever building, or it was a waste of time in the first place. Neither of those sound fun to me.

LouI like the base invasion idea, but make it a selection feature, not mandatory.
I feel better building without the threat of mobs attacking le and having to fix things every 10 minutes. It gets annoying after a while.
But if this were to happen, make it a "punishment of the gods" type setting where the dedicated soldiers of that God's shrine attack.
