Game Bugs and lags when getting close to Jason

Whenever I approach Jason on the beach, my game slows down significantly and starts lagging. This continues even if I walk away from him and persists throughout my game world unless I restart the whole game. Given that talking with Jason is necessary for multiple quests, this is very frustrating. This happens on any graphics setting.
